Backbury Ward - John Hardwick
My name is John Hardwick and I have been your County Councillor for the last 12 years. I will be standing again for election on 4th May.
I have lived and farmed in the Backbury Ward all of my life. I am married to Maria, who worked for the NHS, and we have 2 grown up children that were both educated at Fownhope School. I served on Fownhope Parish Council for a total of 37 years and that has helped me build up a real knowledge and understanding of what is important to residents in the area and I continue to have the desire and determination to represent you all, fairly and effectively.
I am currently on the Wye Valley AONB Joint Advisory Committee, The River Lugg Internal Drainage Board and The Hfds & Worcs Fire Authority. The Young Farmers are also very important to the youth of Herefordshire and I am currently a County Federation Vice-President and a Vice-President of our local Club – Woolhope & District YFC (I first joined that club at the age of 13). The newly formed Charity “We are Farming Minds” is also one of my priorities because looking after the mental welfare of those engaged in the agricultural industry is more important than ever in these challenging times. In my spare time (when I have some!) I am a keen amateur photographer, mainly concentrating on wildlife and Motorsport.
Having represented you for the last 12 years as your Ward Councillor and actively supported all Parish Councils in the Ward I hope you are confident to vote for me to represent you all for a further 4 year term. I am standing as an Independent because, at this local level, I don’t believe national politics should get in the way of sensible and collaborative working.
