Dinedor Hill - David Summers
Looking back over the past eight years has made interesting viewing at least on my part. My venture into the world of local government has been both challenging and rewarding. I must confess my desire to get things done combined with a distinct lack of patience have not always been the best attributes for a life in politics, and I have had to mellow a little.
In 2015 you first elected me as your ward councillor and since that time we have seen more than our fair share of ups and downs. However, thanks to the resourcefulness and community spirit of its residents, Dinedor Hill Ward has come through in good shape. Even with the intrusion of Covid and the inclement weather conditions we have seen more successes than failures.
What really stands out for me is the support of parish councillors and their help lobbying behind the scenes for changes in the way Herefordshire council manages its assets, Balfour Beatty, and the 106 funds it receives from developers to pay for improved local infrastructure.
Yes, there is still lots do and yes, we still have potholes and at times it’s a bit like driving through a minefield. Saying that, the roads throughout the ward are for the most part passable and some have even been resurfaced.
If you haven’t done so lately, take a walk around Rotherwas. By the way it’s much easier since the benches were installed along Holme Lacy Road and the Greenway to the Canary Bridge. The growth of Rotherwas in the last 8 years is quite remarkable (saying that, an Eastern bridge would certainly benefit further growth). The new Shell Store takes memories from the worst of times and shows what can be accomplished during better times. Sitting next to the Shell Store is the NMITE building, the very latest in universities which is already attracting students from around the world.
The new Cyber Quarter is world class and a key player spanning Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire.
If all that is not enough look around you, Dinedor Hill Ward is nestled in countryside that is heaven to wake up to.
As many of you are aware there are several projects in the pipeline that have taken literally years of lobbying, and some are now close to realization. As you and I know it’s the squeaky wheel that gets the oil and with your support, I genuinely look forward to being the squeaky wheel that helps to keep our ward one of the best places to live.
