Holmer Ward
Stephen Tannatt Nash
My name is Stephen Tannatt Nash, I live in the middle of Holmer near the Starting Gate Pub. There are a lot of candidates standing for election this year, including national party candidates and two Independents, and it is important to remember that if you don't want a return to the status quo, same old guard, politics of old, you need to look forward and elect a different candidate than normal, so I stand here asking for your vote as a progressive Independent, who has yours, rather than my, interests at heart.
Many will tell you I am a confident and tenacious person. I have a very strong moral compass and believe that candidates should be held to high standards for those they are representing. I believe that the common good is the only focus that the council’s policies should be tested against, and I will strongly defend your interests.
For 32 years, I have lived, learned and enjoyed the Herefordshire countryside and city. I now have 3 children and a partner that lives here with me in Holmer, and I feel I have a new duty to make sure that the ward, and the larger county, is improved and maintained as necessary to safeguard Hereford for future generations.
Last time I stood for you, 4 years ago, you put me within 6.5% of winning. A truly humbling and amazing result for me as a 28-year-old man. Since then, I have been serving the community, here and away, by working in the NHS as a physician associate. I see first-hand the struggles of us “normal people” on a regular basis, made worse by the collapse of systems. We have all had to deal with the impact of COVID, we have been locked into a rapid rising inflation, and local services funded centrally from the government have taken a financial plunge (thanks to our MPs voting record, we now have £100 million less a year coming into Council coffers in 2023 than we did in 2011) - we must fight for a return to fairer funding for rural authorities like Herefordshire.
As an independent I have the unique ability and established network, to work with any party providing they are standing with your best interests in mind. With friends and colleagues already working in other parties, I am the only candidate who can say they are well placed to work with all at the table, without fear of national policies impinging their ability.
I hope I have shown you what makes me a different candidate. I am not doing this for me. I am doing this to safeguard Hereford for our children and, hopefully, grandchildren. I stand with integrity, without bias or privilege, and with nothing to gain other to make sure that our families can go on enjoying our home for years to come.
I would love to chat to you over the next few weeks, so please give me a call or send an
email if you have any questions.
