Katie Fowler is standing for Kern Bridge

My name is Katie Fowler and I am standing as an Independent candidate for the Kerne Bridge Ward in the County Council elections on May 4th. I am standing as a candidate because, although no one ‘normal’ wants to be involved in politics at the moment, I am absolutely convinced that local democracy has never been more important and ordinary people must step up to make a positive change for their communities - despite all the current challenges and negativity.
I’m standing as an Independent because I have given this a lot of thought and have come to feel strongly that national party politics shouldn't be a factor in local elections and that working as, and with, other Independents, gives me the freedom to work with others who are like-minded and do what we feel is right for our communities, without fear or favour of a national party based in Westminster.
I shall be working alongside the current Independent Councillor for Kerne Bridge, Yolande Watson, over the next few weeks, and with Cllrs. Danny Lister, Milly Boylan and Rob Taylor in Ross (as well as standing for County in Kerne Bridge, I am standing for the Town Council, where I own and run a small business). I don’t want to be someone who just complains, I am determined to get things done. And there is always a way to get things done if you are persistent.
Many of you know from my work with a fabulous team that provide donations and support to Ukraine. Last year we delivered aid into Ukraine 29 times, and I will apply the same determination to being your ward Councillor as I have to my businesses and charity. I like helping people. I have lived on the edge of Ross and Walford for a very long time now and care passionately about the area. I know Kerne Bridge very well and my father-in- law Chris Fowler delivered milk within the area for years.
These are tough times, with repeated and devasting cuts voted through by our MPs, but my manifesto pledges will be to; To Protect our Wye Valley AONB, To tackle speeding issues within the Villages, To restore the health of our rivers, To really listen to residents and be aware of their needs, To keep residents informed of decision making, and To Follow through with Yolande's work within the County Council.
For me, the crucial issues over the next 4 years will be; finishing the review and reform of the BBLP Public Realm contract, with many more services (including road inspectors and engineers) coming back in-house, continuing to haul a decade-plus neglected Children’s Services forward into being an open and exemplar service and the continued fight for the protection of our rivers and environment.
Please call or email me at any time if you want to know more or raise an issue.
Katie

I love Ross and I am pleased my children have grown up in a such beautiful and friendly town.

Above all, I am here to listen to you and do my best to help and represent you. Thank you for taking the time to read my letter. Please call or email me at any time if you want to know more or raise an issue.
– and, please all vote on May 4th.
