Kings Acre - Graham Andrews
It has been has a privilege to have been your Ward Councillor for the last 4 years and I would like to continue to represent you, which is why I am standing again as an INDEPENDENT candidate in the Kings Acre Ward County Council election on May 4. I have lived in Kings Acre Road for 22 years, am a proud Herefordian and have worked in Hereford for 38 years, most of that time with Bulmers. Two of my children have been educated through the local schools of Trinity and Whitecross. I am committed to the area, the City of Hereford and the County.
Why VOTE for me? I hope I have proved I am person who cares for the community and is not afraid to challenge decisions. I have tried to be fair and dedicated and represent everyone, regardless of their politics or views. I’m standing as an Independent because I do not believe local politics should be controlled by Westminster party policies, pressure groups or whips.
The big issue on all our minds is the inappropriate development of Church Commissioner and other land around Three Elms. I was elected on a mandate of supporting a much needed second river crossing in the East and will support not what is essentially a cleverly disguised access road here in the West (for developers) onto the Grade 1 agricultural land around Huntingdon Lane (which unfortunately the Liberals Democrats and Conservatives continue to support as their No. 1 priority despite the huge and lasting impact it will have on our community in terms of thousands of extra housebuilding and associated traffic – including encouraging HGVs through Kings Acre). I support the more sensible and shorter Eastern crossing, development of which is underway, to link our colleges, hospitals, industries and motorway network – a route supported by our MP, the majority of Cllrs. and local businesses.
My other priorities are around better provision of care in the community, ensuring that our elderly residents enjoy their independence and the comfort of their own home for as long as possible. I will also continue to support vulnerable families and children at home and within the school environments and through my work on the Children’s Committee. As custodians for future generations, I will promote working together to counteract the effects of climate change, the protection of the River Wye, and our local community environment along the Yazor Brook. I fully support the administration’s agreed policy of 20 mph residential zones through out the City and the improvement of pedestrian and cycling routes to provide safe and accessible use for all users. I have also been lobbying the Cabinet Member hard for more funding for better and cheaper bus services to help relieve congestion in the City.
Above all, I will be remain approachable, accessible and accountable and WILL NOT be someone who you only see at election times.
