Saxon Gate - John Jones
My name is John Jones and I am standing as an Independent candidate for the County Council seat in my home ward of Saxon Gate.
Many of you will recognise me from my previous leaflet, when I was initially standing as a Conservative candidate. Unfortunately, due to the behaviour and policies of our national Conservative government I no longer felt able to support the party. I apologise for any confusion or irritation that may have caused you - and believe me it was not an easy decision.
Instead I have decided that if I am to truly represent the ward I was born and grew up in, and do it to the best of my ability, I would be best placed to do that as an Independent Councillor, who was free to make the best decisions for our community without fear or favour from a national party based in Westminster, and which would allow me to work with other progressive likeminded independents and groups in Herefordshire.
My father was in the military and I was born in Hereford and grew up on the old Sterling Lines estate. I went to school at Haywood High (now the Hereford Academy) and Iive in Putson. I built up and run a cleaning business that mainly focused on schools around the County. I believe in social justice and genuinely trying to be kind to each other.
I believe I will be a passionate, energetic and impartial voice for our community. I welcome your opinion and support, so that together we can do what's right for the ward. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if there are issues you would like to discuss or if you would like me to visit you before you place your vote.
I have highlighted some issues I am keen to focus on overleaf but I am particularly keen to make our streets safer and more pleasant for all and will be lobbying for Saxon Gate to be in the first tranche of the Council’s proposed roll- out of 20 mph and School Streets zones.
