Whitecross - Dave Boulter (County)
and Sue Boulter (City)
I have been privileged to serve as your County Ward Councillor here in Whitecross for the last four years, and – with your support – I hope to do so again.
Within twelve months after being elected we were all hit with the COVID19 pandemic and, as we all know, the landscape changed. During this period my wife and I were closely involved in providing support across our community to isolated and vulnerable residents, organising shopping, collection of prescriptions and sometimes just a phone call for reassurance.
Thankfully the cleverness of the internet enabled many of us to stay in touch with loved ones and to carry on working through all the worry and disruption. The Council played a big part in providing all sorts of support to residents and to businesses, and a lot of our council staff were involved throughout in dealing with the COVID19 issues - both in the public eye and behind the scenes. This work went on for many months and changed the pace and priorities for the council as we all try to adjust to a new normal.
I live in the ward and I am aware of the local issues we all face. I have been addressing them as they have been reported to me and most have been resolved. Regrettably, some are still ongoing and I will continue to work on them.
I voted at Council for an Eastern river crossing as I believe this is the best solution to reduce traffic on the A49 and into the City. Importantly, this will prevent inappropriate development in our ward (my pledge at the last election) and I will continue to fight for this second bridge crossing as the most environmentally friendly and cost effective way to improve how we all live in and move around our city.
I am extremely passionate about the slogan ‘20 is plenty’ and I am committed to lowering the speed limits in key areas around the ward. Not just for schools, but to improve road safety in general, and am very pleased the Council has committed to the roll-out of these safety schemes.
I am Chair of the St. Nicholas Association and in the past we have organised highly successful fun days for the community at the Westfaling Street park. Now we are all putting the pandemic behind us, I am thoroughly looking forward to organising more community events like these and to publishing and distributing our popular newsletter once again.
If re-elected I will continue to make this ward and the interests of its wonderful residents my main priority. I will continue to put people before politics as I have done during my time in this role.
It is my firm belief that local democracy should be conducted by local people and not dictated by Westminster politicians and national party interests. That’s why I continue to stand for It’s Our County – Herefordshire’s very own Independent local party.
